The all-time-favourite Love Moomin mug soon available globally in a limited-edition blue

A blue edition of the all-time-favourite Moomin Arabia product, the Love Moomin mug, will finally be available globally. The Blue Love collection will become available on October 30th, 2024. The collection also includes a mini plate, a mini mug and textiles.

The Blue Love collection was released in Japan on Valentine’s day 2024. Starting October, it will finally be available also globally.

The collection’s illustrations depicting Snorkmaiden and Moomintroll’s deep relationship as playmates and sweethearts are the same as those of the pink Love Moomin mug, the all-time Moomin Arabia favourite.

The collection consists of a 0.3-litre mug, a mini plate, mini mug and textiles and is only available until the end of 2025. As a special treat, the mug and a mini plate come with a Moomin 80 bottom stamp.

The illustrations are originally from several of Tove Jansson’s and Tove and Lars Jansson’s comics. One of the most beloved Moomin illustrations of all time, the hugging Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden, is from Tove Jansson’s comic #11 Moomin and the Martians (1957).

Love Moomin mug is an all-time favourite

The popular Love mug, which came for sale in 1996, is the only Moomin mug from the 1990s that is still in production. It features one of the most beloved Moomin illustrations of all time, the hugging Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden from Tove Jansson’s comic #11 Moomin and the Martians (1957).

The Love mug is nowadays also available in the bigger, 0.4-litre size.

The Love mug was designed by Moomin Arabia’s now retired illustrator Tove Slotte. She thinks that the emotional illustration on the mug is one of the main reasons for the item’s popularity: “The hugging Moomins is an adorable illustration, and combined with the light pink colour it expresses one of the strongest emotions, love. Just like other Jansson drawings, also this is timeless and classical.”

The collection will come for sale on October 30, 2024 and is available until the end of 2025. The Blue Love collection will be available online at shop.moomin.com, moominarabia.com, Moomin Arabia stores, selected Iittala stores and outlets and selected retailers.

80 years of Moomin stories

2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the Moomin stories. The central theme of the anniversary year is the Moominhouse and what it stands for – a sense of belonging, a place where the door is always open.

Tove Jansson wrote the first Moomin story, The Moomins and the Great Flood, during World War II to comfort herself in dark times, creating a world built on inclusivity and adventure. It is a tale about troubled times and a scattered family. It is also a story about hope, a story about the importance of belonging and having a safe place to call home.

Today, when millions of people around the world are lacking care and security, Moomin Characters has teamed up with its longstanding partner The Red Cross to gather funds for those in need. A part of the proceeds from selected Moomin 80 products will be donated to the work of The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) through National Red Cross societies.

This also applies to Moomin Arabia’s Home at Last collection. The 0,3L mug, minimug and miniplate are available exclusively in Japan from April 2025 onwards. Additional items will be added to the collection during the year also in the Nordics, launched in the second half of the year. For each item sold, one euro is donated to the local Red Cross Society to support the humanitarian work of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

The illustrations with the Moomin family’s happy reunion in front of the Moominhouse are based on Tove Jansson’s comic strip, ”Moomin and Family Life” (1955), which has similarities to the first Moomin tale. In the story, Moominmamma and Moominpappa save Moomintroll from the waves of the sea and realize he is their long-lost son, and the family can return home reunited.

Moomin Arabia will also be joining the Red Cross in Japan at the Osaka Expo, an event that brings together people and innovations from around the world in an effort to address issues facing humankind on a global scale. The Home at Last collection will also be available for purchase during the Osaka Expo Fair.
