Hilke x Moomin – a timeless brass collection for every home

Hilke’s Moomin collection inspires people to gather together around the table. The collection, which celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Moomin stories, is now available.

Hilke’s first Moomin collection consists of timeless pieces that bring a touch of nostalgia and elegance to every home. The pitcher, napkin rings, candle holders and handmade candles are now available in Moomin Shops and other retailers.

The products are carefully designed to honour the core values of Moominvalley – hospitality, caring and the strength of being together. The designs are inspired by the first Moomin story, The Moomins and the Great Flood, which was published nearly 80 years ago in 1945.

“I was incredibly moved by The Moomins and the Great Flood, so it felt natural to take inspiration from that particular story. As an example, the tall candlesticks that show the broken Moomin family hiding in the tree. If you look from above instead they reunite in a kind of optical illusion,” says Giovanna Hilke, Designer and CEO of Hilke Collection.

A limited edition pitcher

The Moomintroll-inspired pitcher is a limited edition item, numbered from 0 to 1000.

“From the very beginning, the inspiration for the pitcher has been the soft shape of Moomintroll. I thought it was cool to combine the hard material with the round, lovely and characteristic body shape,” Hilke tells.

The design of the top of the pitcher is a tribute to an important symbol from the Moomin story – the water lily leaf that helps the Moomin family get back to safety.

Candles with Moominous details

The napkin rings and candlesticks are available in nickel-plated brass and solid brass. With their simplistic and elegant design, they bring a subtle, yet Moominous detail to the table setting.

A perfect match with the candlesticks are the drip-free candles, hand-poured in Sweden. They are packed in a beautiful box which features the cover of the first Moomin story.

“Our hope is that people will truly understand the story we aim to convey through our designs. We want our products to promote community, familial care, and serve as a reminder to gather strength with loved ones. This feels particularly important and meaningful right now. Additionally, we want these items to be stylish interior pieces that you always want to display,” concludes Hilke.

The Moomin x Hilke collection is now available on the Moomin Shops, Hilke webshop and Moomin Arabia shops in Sandvika, Göteborg and Mall of Scandinavia. Selected products are also available in the Moomin Arabia airport shops.

80 years of Moomin stories

2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the Moomin stories. The central theme of the anniversary year is the Moominhouse and what it stands for – a sense of belonging, a place where the door is always open.

Tove Jansson wrote the first Moomin story, The Moomins and the Great Flood, during World War II to comfort herself in dark times, creating a world built on inclusivity and adventure. It is a tale about troubled times and a scattered family. It is also a story about hope, a story about the importance of belonging and having a safe place to call home.
