Makia’s newest Moomin collection, titled “Life isn’t always a bed of roses”, features Moominmamma, Little My, Mymble and other beloved inhabitants of Moominvalley. The theme collection wishes to portray the diversity of the unique characters.
The Finnish streetwear brand Makia’s new Moomin collection is a continuation of the “Calm in the eye of the storm” collection launched last fall. In the new collection, Moominmamma is joined by Little My, Fillyjonk, the Groke and other beloved characters from the Moomin stories.
Instead of basing the collection on a specific Moomin story, Makia decided to focus on the characters instead. “Already from the beginning, we knew that we wanted to highlight the women in Moominvalley in this collection. By choosing just one story or book to base the collection on, we would have had to leave out many interesting characters”, Makia’s designer Elina Lappalainen says.
“Life isn’t always a bed of roses continues the story of the strong and resourceful inhabitants of Moominvalley, who face difficulties together and find a solution to any problem.”
The theme collection wishes to portray the diversity and humane traits of Moominvalley’s unique characters, as well as the resilience, willpower and joy of life that unites them all. Much like in the real world, life in Moominvalley isn’t always a bed of roses. Little My is afraid of nothing, and Fillyjonk, on the other hand, is always worried. Moominmamma is the calmness herself. Snorkmaiden spends her days daydreaming while Mymble dreams of true love. The collection also features the lonely and misunderstood Groke.
“Compared to the previous collection, now we have focused even more on the characters in the graphics. However, Moominmamma’s beloved roses are also a part of the collection,” Lappalainen says.
In addition to clothes, the collection also includes some Moominous accessories: colourful beanies, tote bags with Little My and Groke, and three SIGG bottles.
The Moomin collection is available on Makia’s webshop, Makia Flagship Store Lasipalatsi in Helsinki, Makia Concept Store in Raisio and Makia resellers.
