Moomin exhibition at Matsuya-Ginza, Tokyo, Japan presents rare Moomin material from the 1980s

Tove Jansson’s Moomin books and the new Moomin Museum in Tampere, Finland are presented at the recently opened touring Moomin exhibition at the Matsuya-Ginza department store in Tokyo, Japan.

Besides the large human-size Moomin books and museum material, the exhibition showcases also the new Moomin movie ‘Moomins and the Winter Wonderland’ premiering in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Poland, France, China and Japan in December. The new stop-motion animation film is based on Tove Jansson’s original Moomin books, and has been created from existing stop-motion Moomin productions co-produced by Jupiter Film and Film Polski in the 1980s. The premiere of the film in Japan is December 2nd.

At the exhibition, Tove Jansson’s original drawings and the scenes from the film are compared to each other. The Film Museum in Lodz has also loaned extremely rare original puppet material from the 1980s to be showcased at this touring Moomin exhibition.

The exhibition is open at Matsuya-Ginza, Tokyo from November 28 to December 11.

After Matsuya-Ginza the exhibition will tour in the major cities in Japan. The second venue will be at ABENO HARUKAS in Osaka from December 13 to 26.
