Moomin playgrounds by the Finnish Lappset Group have been designed to inspire children of kindergarten and junior school age. The Moominvalley-like surroundings aim to give children authentic experiences and support their learning. Here is where to find these adventurous Moomin playgrounds!
Every child needs a chance to have an exciting adventure with friends in an encouraging environment. Play is important for the Moomins also!
The first Moomin playground by Lappset Group opened in Kotka, Finland, in 2020. A year later, a playground dedicated to Snufkin opened in Rovaniemi, Finland. Now, a new cosy playground with a tall Moominhouse has opened in Uppsala, Sweden.
The playground products are manufactured in Rovaniemi, Finland, and Lappset has been awarded the Key Flag Symbol in recognition of the jobs their manufacture creates in Finland.
The first Moomin-themed playground in Sweden now open!
Arosgatan in Uppsala, Sweden, has a new community spot! Upon refurbishing the town’s old playground area, the residents wished for inspiring outdoor group play that takes into account both younger and older children – they got a tall Moominhouse, flower tables, hammocks, Snufkin’s tent and a tree tunnel!
The Moominhouse even has lighting for children to enjoy their Moomin adventures even in the winter.
Snufkin’s camp in Rovaniemi, Finland
The key play element in Snufkin’s Camp in Rovaniemi, Finland, symbolises a forest where you can play on three different levels, also inviting children with disabilities to play and explore.
On the ground, you can play hide-and-seek, test your balance and lounge on a dense fishing net. Climb the triangles to access the second level, and glide down the slide to get back on the ground. To reach the top level, climb up a curved climbing wall. Once you reach the top, you can explore the surroundings with a play telescope, and then take the longer slide to go down. The playground comes with two games: Snufkin’s Labyrinth and a seeking game.
“Our cooperation has been very rewarding from the outset precisely because it involves the Moomin characters that are loved by people of all ages and that evoke strong emotional memories. Our playgrounds create a setting where the Moomin stories come to life,” explains Kirsi Svärd, Group Design Manager at Lappset.
The Moomin-themed playground in Kotka, Finland
In Katariinan Meripuisto, Kotka, Finland, the Moominhouse rises to more than seven meters, for explorer children to climb up and admire the valley from above. The Moominhouse with three floors of play welcomes children to play and have fun both inside and outside!
The first floor of the Moominhouse is for small children. Like in the original Moomin stories by Tove Jansson, inside the house, the ground floor is dedicated to the kitchen of Moominmamma. This kitchen has many activities: cooking and baking, searching for ancestors, and sliding out right from the window!
One side of the house is partially open, allowing inside activities to be seen from outside. Here you can also find the exciting climbing section to the second floor and upwards. Stairs inside the house let the younger children move easily from a room to another when the ladder outside the house gives something extra to the more experienced adventurer.
The middle floor is for playing with friends and recalling Moominpappa’s travels. It is also an entrance to Moomintroll’s room on the top floor, which has a great view over the Moominvalley, and a stunning tube slide down to the yard!
Playgrounds are free and open for everyone
Lappset’s Moomin playground collections are designed for public parks and outdoor areas, making them freely available for everyone to use on the basis of equal respect. The Moomin-themed collections, such as the Moominhouse, and other playground equipment, support the values shared by the Moomins: friendship, courage, tolerance, equality, and respect for nature.
Lappset group has inspired millions of people to play, exercise, and have fun all over the world since 1970. Moomin Play by Lappset playground area in Kotka is situated at Puistotie 32, Kotka, Finland.
