The first ever bio-pic drama about Moomin creator Tove Jansson, TOVE, has been sold to over 50 territories across the world and is heading to the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom amongst others.

TOVE, the TIFF Industry selects programme 2020 participant, which will be the opening film at the upcoming Gothenburg Film Festival and Finland’s official Academy Award entry has now secured distribution with Juno Films and Films We Like respectively for United States and Canada, while Blue Finch Film Releasing has acquired the film for the United Kingdom and Ireland. TOVE has also been sold to Switzerland (DCM Film Distribution), Benelux (Remain in Light), Austria (Polyfilm Verleih), Israel (DBS Satellite) and Thailand (Movies Matter). With previous sales to Russia/CIS (Russian World Vision), Baltics (Estin Film), South Korea (Jin Jin Pictures), Taiwan (Joint Entertainment) and Japan (The Klockworx), the movie has been sold to over 50 territories across the world.
TOVE broke box office records in Finland in 2020 in spite of the pandemic, and now ranks as the highest grossing Swedish-language Finnish film in the last 40 years.
TOVE is also Finland’s official Academy Award entry and will be a part of the Nordic Competition at the 2021 online edition of Göteborg Film Festival.
The film centers around Tove Jansson who found worldwide success from an unexpected side project: the creation of the beloved world of the Moomins. TOVE is a captivating drama about the creative energy of an iconic talent and her turbulent search for identity, desire and freedom.
The film is directed by Zaida Bergroth (Miami, Maria’s Paradise) and produced by Andrea Reuter and Aleksi Bardy (Tom of Finland) for Helsinki-filmi.

As her fifth feature film, Variety says Zaida Bergroth’s directing “beguiles audiences into the world of its characters” and thinks that she “flexes her considerable cinematic powers, conjuring vibrantly expressive visuals and confident performances from her talented cast.”
